Terms & Conditions

Please read these terms carefully before booking a removal service with us. By making a booking you agree to these terms and conditions.

Last updated: May 2026

1. About us

Removals of Sussex is a sole trader, trading as Removals of Sussex, 29 Glebe Road, Cuckfield, Haywards Heath, West Sussex RH17 5BG

Contact: enquiries@removalsofsussex.co.uk / 07355 702918

2. Quotations

All quotations provided by Removals of Sussex are free and without obligation. Quotes are based on the information provided by the customer at the time of enquiry, including property size, inventory, locations, access details, and any specialist items.

Quotes remain valid for 30 days from the date of issue. We reserve the right to revise a quote if the scope of the job changes materially from the information originally provided — for example, if there are significantly more items, access difficulties not previously disclosed, or additional services required on the day.

Any changes to the agreed scope of work on moving day may result in additional charges, which will be communicated to the customer before work proceeds.

3. Bookings and deposits

A booking is confirmed when a deposit has been received, and a written confirmation has been issued by Removals of Sussex. The deposit amount will be confirmed at the time of booking and is deducted from the total cost of the job.

The remaining balance is due on or before the day of the move, unless otherwise agreed in writing.

We accept payment by bank transfer and cash.

4. Cancellation and rescheduling

Cancellation by the customer

  • Cancellation more than 14 days before the moving date — full deposit refunded
  • Cancellation 7–14 days before the moving date — 50% of the deposit refunded
  • Cancellation less than 7 days before the moving date — deposit is non-refundable
  • Cancellation on the day of the move — full quoted price is payable

Rescheduling by the customer
We will do our best to accommodate rescheduling requests subject to availability. Rescheduling requests made more than 7 days before the moving date will be accommodated at no additional charge where possible. Rescheduling with less than 7 days’ notice may incur an administration fee.

Cancellation by Removals of Sussex
In the unlikely event that we need to cancel your booking, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer a full refund of any deposit paid. We will endeavour to assist you in finding an alternative provider if required.

5. Insurance and liability

Removals of Sussex holds the following insurance cover on every job:

  • Goods in transit insurance — covers your belongings while in our care during the move
  • Public liability insurance — covers accidental damage to property during the course of the removal

Insurance details, including coverage limits, are available on request. Please ask before your move if you require this information.

Items not covered
The following items are excluded from our insurance cover unless agreed otherwise in writing:

  • Items of exceptional value — including jewellery, cash, watches, artwork, and antiques — unless specifically declared and agreed prior to the move
  • Items packed by the customer that are not supervised or packed by Removals of Sussex
  • Pre-existing damage to items prior to the move
  • Plants, perishables, and living things
  • Hazardous materials
  • Damage claims

Any damage must be reported to us in writing within 7 days of the moving date. Claims reported after this period may not be accepted. We will assess all claims fairly and respond within 14 days of receiving written notification.

6. Customer responsibilities

The customer is responsible for the following:

  • Ensuring all items to be moved are disclosed at the time of quoting — undisclosed items may incur additional charges
  • Ensuring access to both the collection and delivery address is available and suitable for the vehicle at the agreed time
  • Obtaining any necessary parking permits or suspensions in advance of the moving date
  • Ensuring all fragile or high-value items are specifically identified before the move
  • Ensuring all utility disconnections and property handover arrangements are managed separately by the customer
  • Ensuring children and pets are kept safely away from the working area during the move

7. Delays and waiting time

We will always make every effort to arrive on time and complete the move within the agreed timeframe. However, delays can occur due to circumstances beyond our control, including traffic, access issues, or delays at a previous job.

If a move takes significantly longer than quoted due to circumstances within the customer’s control — such as items not being ready, access not being available, or scope being larger than stated — additional time may be charged at an agreed hourly rate.

8. Prohibited items

We are unable to transport the following items:

  • Hazardous, flammable, or explosive materials
  • Illegal substances or items
  • Firearms or ammunition
  • Pets or live animals
  • Perishable food items

If prohibited items are presented for transport without prior disclosure, we reserve the right to refuse to move them without liability.

9. Disputes

In the event of a dispute, we will always aim to resolve matters fairly and promptly through direct discussion. Please contact us in the first instance at enquiries@removalsofsussex.co.uk.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes that cannot be resolved by agreement will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

10. Changes to these terms

We reserve the right to update these terms and conditions from time to time. The version in force at the time of your booking will apply to your job. We recommend checking this page periodically for any updates.
